05-17-10

This weekend as good for the girls. They didn't act out in anyway. They have regressed with the bottle feeding. Friday they didn't take anything from the bottle and very little on Saturday. So they were just showing out feeding from the bottles when they first learned.

We are still holding them daily. And Saturday was a great hold without any show outs from the girlies. Nurse Stephani decided to put their feeding tube back in their mouth to help with their breathing. Because it was in their nose with the cannula prongs. She thought it would help give more room in their nose. It did and probably worked well with their breathing. They have been a little stuffy and having to be suctioned more regularly. Well, Nurse Gladys on Saturday night was tired of fighting Miss Brooklyn. Brooklyn had removed her feeding tube 3 times and one of those times was during her feeding. She is a pro at pulling that thing out of her mouth. She is just too funny. Her battles with the nurses are so fun to listen too. It is the Battle of Brooklyn. She is setting her personality in stone with the nurses. When a new nurse has them, they tell us that they heard Brooklyn was a handful. I love it!

I attempted to give Brooklyn a bottle last night. She didn't take very much. She did really well with the breathing and sucking. But she didn't swallow the milk. It just came out the side of her cute little mouth. The nurse said that she has a strong suck and will take control of the nipple. She didn't really exhibit that quality last night.

They got a bath last night which means it was "Chunky Chickie Weigh In" Day. Quinn is now weighing a stout 4lbs. Miss Brooklyn is up to a hefty 2lb 9oz. She is finally growing out of her "Alien Look" stage and looking like a baby. She is starting to fill out and get some cheeks.

Quinn is now eating 1oz (30ml) of milk every three hours. Brooklyn is eating 20ml every three hours.

They have been D-stating some today. This isn't abnormal but I wish it would stop. The thought of their oxygen levels dropping and their heartrate dropping at the same time is so scary. They recover on their own for the most part but I can't wait for them to stablize and just breathe on their own without any flow.
