Today, Quinn and Brooklyn are 4 weeks old, gestationally speaking they are 33 1/2 weeks. The doctors and nurses all speak in gestational age.
Last night was eventful for us and the girls. Brooklyn already had her bath when we arrived. So I got to give Miss Quinn a bath. She loved it...I am sure of it. Richard was holding Brooklyn as I bathed Quinn.
But before he held Brooklyn, he changed Quinn's diaper. Let me just say that she is a pooping machine. For the last few times we have changed her, she poops as you are changing her. She has previously showed me these talents of hers. However, last night she showed her Daddy what wonderful talents and scents she can produce. So in theory, we change them and it is a two diaper and three wipey event. So proud!
Yesterday, I had mentioned that Brooklyn tried the bottle and took 3ml but most came out the corners of her mouth. Quinn took 6ml at the 3:00pm feeding. She did well also. One more step in the right direction.
Bath night also entails weight check ups! Brooklyn remained at 2 lbs and 5 oz. At least the girlie didn't lose weight. This is just since Sunday at her last weigh in. Quinn gained 20 grams (30 grams is an ounce), so she still weighs in at a whopping 3 lbs 5 oz. Brooklyn now weighs the same as Quinn when she was born. I can't believe Quinn was that small. Guess that is a good thing. They are steadily growing.
Richard did not get a full hour of holding Little Brooklyn. She decided she as too worn out from the bath and was consistently dropping the oxygen level in her blood and making her machines beep. So she went back to bed. Sometimes being out of their bed can be too much for them. They usually do not let you hold on bath night because of this very reason. However, we are trying to hold every night to help stimulate their growth.
Quinn did fine with me holding her. The Lactation Nurse told me that I might notice some changes in holding the babies now that they are trying to bottle feed. I notice the changes she mentioned while holding last night. She decided it would be cool to constantly lick my boob. When she was done with that and fell to sleep, I believe she left some drool behind. But like I always say, it is the sweetest spit and drool you could have on you. I may have said that about her pooping on me too. Yep, I am in love with them.
Today, the girls are good. Brooklyn is still fluctuating at 21% to 30% oxygen. She is just working on this breathing thing. I just knew she would have done better than Quinn. She bottle fed today and took 5ml. Nurse Lauren said she did very well. We need her to gain weight. It isn't something to be overly concerned with right now because we have a little more wiggle room with caloric intake. But she needs to gain some poundage. She also is IV free.
Physical Therapist said Brooklyn and Quinn have great range of motion.
Quinn was wore out after physical therapy and will try a bottle later. She is breathing still on the 1/2 liter and 21%. She is doing really good today.
The doctors haven't made rounds so I don't know if feeds will be increased. If anything changes from tonight, I will be sure to post it tomorrow.
