My babies are growing up so fast. It doesn't seem like six months ago we were being told we would be parents. Actually, at this time 6 months ago I was talking with the doctor and he started singing "Happy Birthday." I have so much to be thankful for and today...I am thankful for two little girls that have the ability to run grown folks out of the room with their stinky panties. WOW! Has it really been six months? People told me that the NICU would seem so small in long run of their lives. To me, it will never be small. I hold too much respect for the nurses and doctors in the NICU to just forget that part of our lives. However, it does seem like we were there for just a few days...many many many months ago.
On their six month birthday, Quinn was in her bed starting to squirm and wake up. Brooklyn was just snoozing. Richard was laying in bed waiting on me to get out of the shower so he could get in. As soon as I turned off the water, I heard him say, "We missed Quinn rolling over for the first time!" I thought he had her on our bed. I will dig my elbow in the bed to give them a bit more of an advantage rolling over but they have never had a true rollover. The doctor said they would roll from their belly to the backs first. Let me just tell ya, these girls do not play by the rules. Now, keep in mind I still have them sleeping in the wedges so they don't turn over while sleeping. During the night we play cat and mouse games with the girls. Brooklyn has a habit of smooching her face against the sides of her beds. One time Richard went to get her because her legs were hanging out between the slats of her bed. Quinn can be facing the opposite direction she started and at the other end of the bed in no time. Both of them like to push their heads against the sides of their beds. Anyway back to the news, Quinn had rolled from her back to her belly this morning in her bed. Richard went to get her and she had her head up looking around. So that completely debunks the doctors expectations of them rolling from their belly to their back. Silly girl.
When we change their diaper, we lay them next to each other. Quinn has been aggravating the mess out of Brooklyn. She will roll to her side and play with Brooklyn. Well her idea of playing is grabbing her hands and petting the side of Brooklyn's head. She often thinks Brooklyn needs to eat and she will supply her hands as B's meal. Most of the time, B doesn't want to put of with it. I can see how someone constantly picking at you can get old. This morning B just laid there and let Q do whatever she wanted to her. I am slightly inclined to believe she enjoyed it. I will say that Q was a bit more gentle this morning then she usually is during this play time.
Tonight we are going to get pumpkins. We have lived at this house for 3 years now and never gotten a pumpkin. Richard thinks Halloween is ridiculous. I told him we were now going to get in the habit of being festive. We have reason now to do these things. They will not be going trick or treating. But we will let them pick out their pumpkin. I told them they could have one each so they didn't have to share. I didn't tell them this but I want to stick them in a pumpkin for pictures. Wish me luck on that one!
We have family pictures on Tuesday and I am excited. It will be probably the 2nd picture the four of us have taken together. I just need to find an outfit and coordinate the clothes. I hate shopping.
Still looking for options for the March of Dimes team name. I have gotten so many great ones so far.
Way to go Quinn!!! Your turn Brooklyn.. :)
