From Pregnancy to Birth then onto the NICU

The girls went to the pediatrician for their 9 month check up on Friday. All is great. They both gained double the weight that was expected of them. Apparently I was fretting for no valid reason. Dr. Pitts said they would not gain weight one week and then gain plenty the next week. So that has my mind at ease. They did get the last of their Hepatitis B series. YAY! I don't have the exact weights with me but I believe Curly Q was 14lbs and 2oz. Little Miss B was 12lbs something...nearly 13lbs. Quinn is in the 76% in head circumference, 3% height, and 0% weight. Brooklyn is in the 76% head circumference also, 0% height, and 0% weight. Keep in mind these are based off a full term baby and we do not have a couple of full terms on our hands. Quinn is exactly one inch longer/taller than Brooklyn. I believe they are 24.75 and 23.75 inches.

They may not be full term but they are full force. Of course Quinn is master army crawler. Now Brooklyn is moving around. But they crawl in two totally different ways. Quinn's strong point is pulling herself with her arms. While Brooklyn is pushing herself with her legs. She gets up on all fours better than Quinn does. I am just not sure which method is the better method. Either which way...we have found our hands to be full. They are on the move and their favorite things are the ones they shouldn't play with for example, our shoes and Toby's toys. Gross. Brooklyn is just getting in the movement club and is still a little slow. But she is actually pulling up on things. When she isn't tired, she will walk with you holding her hands. She will be the shortest walker ever! When you are in the floor playing with her, she will pull herself up on you. She will try to do it on the couch but can't get a good grip. She nearly climbed to Richard's shoulder last night. He was holding her back and she was holding on his shirt with her hands and climbing with her feet. Good thing he was holding her back or she would have flipped backwards. But she pulls up on anything that she can work with.

We have graduated food and moving up to the Sitter 2nd Foods. Dr. Pitts said we could try the little puffs but I am just not ready for that task. I am not quite sure they will chew it. I don't know, it seems they are a little much right now. But maybe we will try in a couple of weeks. We can try table food and make sure it is a consistency they will not choke. JOY! I am so tired of choking babies. It makes me so uneasy.

We have to start introducing the sippy cup. Only thing is that we can't get Brooklyn to hold her bottle anymore. Quinn has become pretty lazy about it too. Any suggestions will be welcome. She refuses to hold it up. I will sit the bottle between their legs and they will just bend down to put the nipple in their mouth. And of course, they can't get anything out of it. Silly girls!

They love to play now and steal toys from each other. Brooklyn is starting to become more vocal about Quinn taking her toys. Unfortunately, they are expressing their feelings through biting. Because I can't remember which was which, I will not point blame. However, one baby bit the other babies foot and left mark. At a different time, one baby bit the other babies hand and left a serious mark. Richard had a couple of teeth marks on his forehead. You really have to be careful of Quinn she will get that face when you aren't looking. Child is sneaky.

We have to work on remedying the separation anxiety. We were told by Dr. Pitts to extend the separation time so they will adjust. If they don't know we aren't in the room, they play with toys and each other. But once they realize we aren't there the toys and time with each other isn't enough. It is a work in progress. Some times are better than others.

For all of you that have prayed for Nana Anna...her amino tests came back clear. The fluid has decreased and looks better. They are having a little boy named Gage. There is a chance the fluid will go away on its own. But continue to pray that baby Gage works through this and is a healthy baby.
