First of all, Happy Birthday Richard. On Saturday, he one of the best birthday presents of all. And actually the only thing he asked to get for his birthday. Miss Quinn decided she wanted to come home. On Thursday of last week, Nurse Emily called and asked if we could bring the carseat. Babies have to sit in seat for 45 minutes without d-sating. We thought that she would be home the next week sometime. Well, to our surprise, I called on Friday morning to ask how our lovely ladies were doing and the Nurse Rubina asked if all goes well we can take Quinn home on Saturday. Then she followed that with more great news. Brooklyn is out of her insulet. It was a whirlwind of great news.

Quinn did great her first night home. She was just amazing. However, Richard and I were the ones that were nervous. We were on the edge. If she made a noise, we were right there. We were constantly putting our hands on her to feel if she was breathing. I know people do that with fullterm babies but we did it twice as much... I promise. We decided that we should probably rest come 2am. Richard hadn't made it to the bed yet and I just laid down when the monitors picked up a cough coming from Quinn. Richard could here it and I heard it on monitors. I jumped up out of bed ran around the corner and Richard was running up the stairs. It was just a cough but it gives an idea of how on edge we really were that night. Sunday night was better for sleep. I took everyone's advice and took a nap with her yesterday. Catch was that she was sleeping on me so I was comfortable enough to sleep for a couple of hours. It was great sleep too. Richard has to work so I have been getting all the feedings so he can rest. I think I will get him to squeezed one in tonight.

Yesterday was her first venture out of the house. She had to visit Dr. Pitts at Gwinnett Pediatrics. She got a good bill of health. She was so adorable. Richard removed her diaper for the examination and apparently she showed her dismay by pooping on the exam table. I was still filling out paper work so Daddy got to handle that one. She also weighs 5lbs. Porking up there!!

When we walked in the office, the front lady said "Oh, this is one of the twins." I hadn't even signed in or anything. They are famous!! So far I am loving Dr. Pitts. He was great with explaining things and developmental delays she would have in comparison to fullterm babies. He was able to put things into perspective for us. Not to mention that I took her hospital records with us, but he had already looked them up before we got there. I like a dr. that does his homework. He was fully knowledgeable of her care in NICU. Even explained a few things to us that was going on with her that we didn't know about or forgot.

We are taking turns visiting Brooklyn in NICU. I feel excited to have Quinn home but then I feel so sad that Brooklyn isn't here with us. I don't get to see her everyday and that is also sad for me. I think she is showing her frustrations with her sister leaving and us not being there at the same time. She had a rough go at it yesterday. She took her bottle that morning and about an hour later she had a brady (heartrate drops significatly and her O2 levels drop). She is now back on Lasix. Her girly area was swollen and then they saw that her arms were puffy. She is just showing out on me. But it could be worse. But if she keeps this up she won't be coming home as soon as we had hoped. Pray for her to behave!!! She was weighed on Sunday night and barely missed the 4lbs mark. She was 3lbs 15.2oz. So tonight should be the night that we celebrate 4lbs. Richard went and fed her last night. Unfortunately, when she was eating she had another Brady. He said she went limp and the monitors were beeping and the nurses ran over there to stimulate her breathe. She should really be past the Brady's. I love her but she is a stubborn little girl and I hate to say it but that stubborn trait is probably a strong reason she is here today. So I will support her stubborn trait, I guess! I should know how to deal with it. I hope to have her home soon.

All of the nurses tell us that they miss Quinn. She probably misses them too. The last night she was there her nurse just held her because she was going to miss her. Quinn made her laugh with her crazy antics.

Is is bad that I have checked Quinn's chest several times while typing this blog? Oh, good she just started grunting.

Besides my home being a wreck, all is well on the Summer's home front.

Keep these precious wonders from God in your prayers. I think I will take her up on her nap.

  1. Praying faithfully for Brooklyn to act right!! And, also for you and Richard- Get your rest!!!! Happy Birthday to Richard- so glad he got one of his presents! Glad to hear the doctor's visit went so well with the adorable Miss Quinn! Hoping for OVER 4lbs tonight for Miss Brook! Love you All! Oh, and if you think your house is messy now-- wait until they are walking and pulling everthing EVERYWHERE!!! I also think that twins have such a unique bond and that Brook is 'showing out' because she knows her big sissy isn't there... Kiss both girls for me and tell them Nit Nit loves them BUNCHES!!!

  2. You do an awesome job of expressing yourself on this blog. I can imagine how you feel about all that is going on. I pray for Miss Brooklyn to get to the 4 and then 5 lb mark and get home. So glad that Quinn is home and doing so well. Housecleaning can wait but those precious moments with your babies can't. You and Richard must be very remarkable to be handling all that you are having to and dare I add ,at such a young age. God bless you all.Nannette Hill
